1) We unanimously recommended approval of the new Downtown Master Plan!
We, as a board, also felt it was important to emphasize the value of the conceptual East/West Connector road, which would provide another road going from Second Street in downtown all the way to Commerce Center Drive (ultimately Statesville Rd). Now it’s off to the Town Board for official adoption.
2) We decided to not recommend a 110 ft. class A office project within the heart of Birkdale Village.
While the majority of us were not against the project itself, we had a problem with the mechanism being used to get there. It had the potential to set a bad precedent for the future.
3) We recommended approval to rezone ~29 acres in the southwest end of Huntersville to neighborhood residential.
This is to seamlessly become Phase 3 of a new neighborhood that is being built called Oak Grove Hill.
4) We recommended approval of removing ~7 acres from the original Oak Grove Hill Phase 1 & 2 projects so it could instead be included in Phase 3.
One of the cool things about this project is that a massive white oak tree estimated to be 220-240 years old will be the centerpiece of a neighborhood greenspace. It’s Mecklenburg County Treasure Tree #037 and can be viewed here.
5 & 6) We recommended approval of a couple of different ordinance changes that would increase the natural buffers between existing residences and new developments that are denser than what’s around.
